Dear Friends & Family,
This year, as I prepare to become a Bar Mitzvah, I’m working on a mitzvah project that means a lot to me. A mitzvah project is a way to give back and make a difference in the world — and for my project, I’ve chosen to raise money to support children with special needs.
This cause is very personal to me because my cousin Eric has Down syndrome. Spending time with him has shown me how important it is to create a world where everyone is supported, and valued — no matter their abilities. Eric is one of the kindest, funniest, and most joyful people I know, and I’ve learned so much just by being around him. I want to help make sure other people with special needs have the same opportunities for friendship, education, fun, and independence.
That’s why I’m partnering with the Yogi Berra Museum and Learning Center for Yogis Big Catch on September 21, 2025. Yogis Big Catch is a world record attempt to get the most pairs of people having a catch simultaneously. We need 1000 pairs to beat the world record.
I chose to work with the Yogi Berra association because I am close with his granddaughter and I deeply share Yogi's value that everyone should get a shot at being great – no matter their abilities or backgrounds. I think, and I’m sure many people agree, that Yogi was one of the funniest, kindest people with the biggest heart.
IYou can help with by project by doing any of the following:
✅ Help me reach my goal to raise $x to fund special needs accommodations at the Big Catch, including [headsets, staffing?]
✅ Donate gently used baseball gloves for the Big Catch so all kids who want to can participate. Donations can be dropped off Temple B’Nai Jeshurn now through JULY 11, 2025
✅ Join me to volunteer (or participate) at Yogi’s Big Catch. [Tickets here]
’m really proud to honor my cousin and help others like Eric through this project. Thank you so much for supporting me on this journey and helping me make a difference.
With love and gratitude,
Jake
